Synthetic rubber is derived from crude oil whereas synthetic plastic is made of petroleum and natural gas. Plastic is a material which can be moulded into different shapes due to their malleable nature and are hard and water resistant. Rubber and latex are not the same but many people use the words as if they both referred only to natural rubber which is the material derived from the milky white sap of rubber trees. The latex fluid that seeps from rubber trees has many isoprene molecules.

Rubber elasticity is a complex process. Like plastic rubber is a polymer which is a chain of repeating units called monomers in rubber the monomer is a carbon compound called isoprene that has two carbon carbon double bonds. These vary widely in chemical structure and application and all of them synthetic except for natural. Rubber is an elastic material that is either obtained from rubber plants or synthesized using petroleum oil.

Plastic are less elastic in nature while rubber is considered as the main elastic substance.
